Lisa’s Weekly Note – March 4

Hello SMS parents and students!

It’s hard to believe it is already March. I have attached both the HS March calendar and the Elem/MS March calendar to this email just in case you didn’t receive it last week. I’d like to extend a HUGE thank you to the SMS PTA for sponsoring Friday’s Media Literacy Day. Thank you to all the parents who braved the ugly weather to be at the Parent Workshop (I have attached the Parent Media Literacy Guide to this email). Michelle gave so much for both parents and students to think about; I believe it was a great jumping off point for deeper conversations with our children. Michelle will be sending me additional information to pass on to everyone, so stay tuned!

8TH Grade Families: You will receive HS placement information later this week. The Round 2 HS Fair takes place at the MLK Campus on March 17 &18 from 11 am-2pm.

Wednesday, 3/7: Picture Retake Day. Any absent students have been automatically signed up for a slot, and we are also doing the 12th grade Cap & Gown pictures. Other than that ONLY students whose parents have contacted me will be permitted to have their pictures retaken, as we have limited space. Please let me know by the end of the day TOMORROW, Monday, March 5, if you would like your photo retaken.

Thursday, 3/8:  12:30-3 & 4-7: SMS high school parent/teacher conferences: We welcome both parents and HS students and hope you can take advantage of these valuable conferences. Each teacher has a sign-in sheet outside their door to expedite the process. Please utilize the sheet and adhere to the sign-in order, and keep in mind that if you arrive shortly before the end of either of the two sessions, you many not be able to see multiple teachers. The floor must be cleared from 3-4 to give teachers their contracted break. Please review your child’s report card/Pupil Path, before arriving. A map of the floor is attached to this email to help you locate the teachers you would like to meet with.
