SMS ANNUAL ONLINE AUCTION:
Auction season is upon us (the big event goes live in March!). In preparation, we need your help contributing items. As in the past, we’re looking for one donation per family.

Some popular suggestions:
• Gift cards: Starbucks, Amazon, iTunes, Netflix, Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s
• Tickets to concerts, sporting events, theater productions, TV tapings, movies
• Museum memberships and passes
• Something homemade: Baked goods, crafts
• Services: practice coaching, piano accompaniment, babysitting, tutoring
• Popular electronics: Apple Watches, iPads, Kindles, etc.
• A stay in your weekend/vacation house, a cruise on your sailboat (a flight on your jet!)
• Gently used instruments and accessories, like shoulder rests, rock stops…

All donations (except instruments) should be new and unused. The deadline is January 29th. Jen Laing (6th grade parent) will be collecting items every Friday morning from 8-9am at KMC. High school students can drop of their contributions with Lisa Stump. You can find general auction info, plus donor forms and solicitation letters at smsparents.org, under the “Fundraising” tab.

Thanks so much and happy fundraising!!

STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES:
Composers of all ages: Make math your muse! MoMath (the National Museum of Mathematics) is now accepting submissions for its annual mathematical song competition, Open Set. Write your own words to a favorite tune or compose your own melody; the only rules are that the lyrics must be original and must be about math or a mathematical concept. The winners will be announced and will have a chance to perform their winning songs at an “open mic”-style, evening performance at MoMath this spring.
Apply today! Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until capacity is reached; please note that while there is not a specific closing date, MoMath expects to stop accepting applications early in 2018. For more information and to submit your entry, please visit openset.momath.org.

PARENT OPPORTUNITIES:
HS Parents: We are still looking for a few Advisory Parents for the HS (you may know the job better as “class parents,” but we have split it into smaller groups so each Advisory Parent has a smaller group to communicate with). It is a low-key way that you can help out your child’s school, often from the comfort of your own living room. If you are interested please let me know!

OUTSIDE SMS:
3rd-8th grade parents:
March 1, at 6:00 pm: District 3 State Testing Workshop: Registration is required by clicking here or contacting me directly.

3rd-8th graders: Saturday, February 10: This is a fun opportunity to represent SMS at the District 3 Spelling Bee. This year there is a math vocabulary theme. We will send two representatives from the 3rd-5th grade, and two representatives from the 6th through 8th grade. Please let me know if your child would like to participate
