Hello SMS Families! Can you believe we May is here? 2018 has been a whirlwind, and I don't expect things to slow down any time soon. Thank you to Nathan Blom for the transcendent experience for half of the HS students who saw Miss You Like Hell at The Public last week. From what I hear, MANY tears were shed by students and faculty alike. And thank you Angie Ramos (10th grade parent) for filling in as an additional chaperone. Congratulations to Ms. Shwecky and Dr. Rawson on a successful bake sale for Dress for Success. We have a substantial monetary donation to contribute, but there has also been interest in putting together a "business clothes" clothing donation. Happy Earth Day SMS Families! I hope you are taking advantage of the rare beautiful day to get out there and participate in one of the Earth Day events/celebrations around the city. Congratulations to the 3rd Grade on a successful Town Hall presentation on persuasive essays and stamp design, and thank you HS Choir for performing for everyone--it was great for the younger students to have the opportunity to hear you at Town Hall!   Thank you to Jill Jones, Yulia Freynk, and Jen Laing for their help with K-12 picture retakes and 12th grade cap and gown photos. Hello SMS Families! It was wonderful seeing so many K-8 parents at the Elementary and Middle School conferences on Thursday. Thank you to the PTA for providing a delicious pizza lunch for the K-8 faculty! HOUSEKEEPING: Wednesday, 3/21: 10th & 11th Grade: It is imperative that students arrive ON TIME to school for PSATs and SATs. They will need to be prepared with #2 pencils, and a graphing calculator. No students will be permitted to leave school early without express written consent from a parent. PARENT NYC SCHOOL SURVEYS 2018:  It is very important that you take the time to fill out your survey, either online, or in paper form. This give the DOE and SMS valuable information about how YOU feel about YOUR CHILD'S experience at SMS. Hello SMS Families! January has disappeared before our eyes, and February is upon us. I have attached both the HS February Calendar and the Elementary/Middle School Calendar to this email. We have had radical shifts in the weather, and with that, we have also had a dramatic uptick in illness. Please reinforce good habits with your children in dressing appropriately for the weather AND frequent hand washing. HOUSEKEEPING: K-12 METROCARDS: Qualifying students receive their second semester MetroCard this week. The new MetroCards WILL NOT WORK until February 1. Please do NOT discard your current card after you receive your new card. Your current card will remain active through January 31.
