The SMS KARATE KID after-school program is back for its 17th year at SMS!
The SMS KARATE KID practice traditional Okinawan martial arts to learn self-control, concentration, respect, fitness, and self-defense skills with the special concerns and needs of the SMS students in mind. The “Kids” learn to work in a disciplined, non-competitive environment, building fitness, skills and respect for others and themselves. The SMS KARATE KID after school program has been a great success since 2001, with “Kindergarten through Middle School participating. Our motto is “Training the Spirit & Body; Courtesy and Defense; Character and Etiquette”
The SMS Karate Kids program is presented by former SMS parents Robert Weinberg (10th Degree Black Belt)and Zhen Guo (Fourth Degree Black Belt) senior student Felix Sanes (Eighth Degree Black Belt). Robert Weinberg is a direct senior student of “Living Legend” Grandmaster Eizo Shimabukuro of Okinawa and brings more than 57 years’ experience to this program.
Our program runs for the entire school year. Our autumn session is 14 regular classes from September 13 through December 20 (NOTE: The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is also available as an extra for those who wish to come and is billed seperately). Classes meet Wednesday afternoons from 3:00 – 4:15 in Room 409, and the tuition for the 14 classes is $308.00 (part of the tuition is allocated to the Kaufman Center). Siblings pay only one-half price and some tuition assistance is available by request. A karate uniform is necessary and is available for $25.
Please register as soon as possible as space is limited. A waiver form is needed and will be supplied when we are contacted. Contact us to register or for questions by email to NYRendokan@aol.com or call 646-331-4606.
